Palazzo Contarini della Porta di Ferro, Venice
Venice Sotheby's Realty is staging an exciting event in 2009 during the period of the Venice Biennale by hosting an important installation by a British artist which very much reflects the iconic nature of this Gothic Palazzo, described by John Ruskin as one of the most beautiful in Venice.
The MONUMENTS installation by the international artist Terry Duffy is an important pan European project and a powerful dialectic fusion of architecture, fine art and human legacy. Duffy chooses for his work the context of specific iconic places and buildings that through his intervention focuses upon their significance within the diverse spectrum of human history and as a result questions and challenges perceptions of human history, complexity, responsibility and homogeneity.
"Venice is one of the crucial locations for MONUMENTS, exemplifying mankind’s highest achievements in creativity. Palazzo Contarini della Porta di Ferro is a place of architectural delicacy, visual detail, aesthetic beauty and visual harmony with nature in a completely unique and iconic city."
